A Summer Glow|Becca X Chrissy Review

At this point and time I’m sure all of you have heard about or bought the “Becca X Chrissy Teigen Glow Face Palette”. There was buzz around this product before its release as expected, since one of social media’s biggest stars was a part of this collaboration. This palette comes with 1 blush shade, 2 highlighters, and 1 bronzer. Let’s start with packaging. I am a sucker for packaging and this product got me good. It’s a beautiful metal quad with a marble front and a massive mirror inside. The colours of the packaging consist of mostly pinks, peach, and rose gold, which gives off a very light and summery vibe. Becca really nailed the packaging!

Opening up the palette you will see your product. Let’s begin with the bronzer. It is a beautiful product, perfect for a warm summer bronzy look but it’s more for light to medium skin tone. It is not dark enough for deeper skin tones. I guess if they did want to market it for more skin tones they could’ve added 2 bronzer shades instead of just 1. There are flex of shimmer in the bronzer, which personally I am not fan of. I do prefer matte bronzers. The bronzer is the product I use the least in this palette. The blusher is amazing; it also contains flex of shimmer which I do not mind. The blush is a beautiful rosy shade which will compliment a lot of different skin tones. It is well pigmented which is great!

I appreciate that the palette comes with 2 highlighter shades, which will compliment more skin tones. One thing to note is that these highlighters in the palette are less pigmented than the regular Becca powder highlighters.  This isn’t a terrible thing; I found that these highlighters in the palette are more so of an everyday effortless summer glow and not blinding where you need sunglasses. I usually layer them on top of one another which give a great finish. On their own they give off more of a medium glow.

The quality of all the powders, I find, are great. They are not chalky and application is smooth. The outcome is long lasting, and if you are a fan of warmer shades and a non-blinding everyday glow, you will love this palette. This palette is well priced as well since you do get 2 highlighters, 1 blush and 1 bronzer. I do find myself reaching for this face palette on the daily since it has everything I need in it and is perfect for an everyday effortless look.

Make it POP like Champagne

Highlighting is all the rage and shows no signs of disappearing anytime soon. Not only is it enough to highlight with one product, but layering has also become a trend. I will be reviewing two illuminators, more on the affordable side. The first is by NYX, the “Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator in Gleam”. Second illuminator we have is by Sephora, “Radiant Luminizing Drops in Ultra Light”.

In terms of consistency, NYX definitely takes the cake! Sephora’s illuminator is a tad too runny and watery. I find it harder to control the product when it comes to application. “Born to Glow” illuminator, by NYX, has a thicker consistency which I personally prefer since it is easier to apply and work with.

Application differs greatly as well, as I mentioned above I do prefer a thicker consistency since I find it easier to apply and blend. I tend to use my finger to apply liquid illuminators and if needed, I use a sponge to blend. Consistency does coincide with application and the Sephora illuminator is just a nuisance to apply. As with any makeup product, pigmentation is a huge factor. This post seems rather one sided 😛 But what can I say, NYX is the better pigmented product. This all does depend on what you are looking for from the product. If you want that extra blinding glow where you use an illuminator as a base for your powder highlight, NYX is what you are looking for as a drugstore option. If you want that subtle glow, great, try out the Sephora illuminator it will give you just that. I have tried layering my powder highlight over the Sephora illuminator and it does not give me my blindly OMG glow. I do believe a good base will provide a good end result.

The powder highlights I use on a regular are “Champagne Pop by Becca” and “Soft & Gentle by Mac”. The one upside with the Sephora illuminator is that it includes a dropper applicator which is helpful when you do not want waste a whole bunch of product. The NYX illuminator is obviously the better product in my opinion. The product itself is pigmented, easy to work with, and affordable!
