Simple 10 Minute Summer Makeup Look

Hey hey! I don’t know about you, but I cannot stand a lot of makeup on my face during the warmer months; I always feel like I’m melting away. So I’ve condensed my makeup routine into only 10 minutes for those days where I have work or just want to look a bit more alive. Here are my steps to a simple summer makeup look:

  1. Moisturize, consider something with SPF already built in, if not remember to always apply sunscreen and protect your skin.
    1. Product of choice: “Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream” by REN
  2. Prime, I usually apply primer under the eyes and around the noise. Anywhere I want to smooth before correcting.
    1. Product of choice: “Photo Finish Foundation Primer” by Smashbox
  3. Concealer, during the warmer months I despise foundation, it’s just too heavy on the skin. The only time I would wear foundation during the warmer months is if I have an event to attend.
    1. Product of choice: “Aqua Luminous Perfecting Concealer” by Becca
  4. Setting Powder, make sure the concealer does not budge!
    1. Product of choice: “Stay Matte Pressed Powder” by Rimmel
  5. Mascara, adds a bit of a lift to the eye.
    1. Product of choice: “Voluminous Butterfly Sculpt” by L’Oreal
  6. White Eyeliner, in the waterline to make my eyes look a bit bigger.
    1. Product of choice: “Kohl” by Rimmel
  7. Highlighter & Blusher
    1. Product of choice: “Becca x Chrissy Teigen Glow Face Palette” by Becca
  8. Lips
    1. Product of choice: “Ultra HD Gel Lipcolour” by Revlon in the shade Vineyard

I am absolutely in love with the Becca concealer, its lightweight with a good amount of coverage and so hydrating. It covers my panda eyes and dark spots. This product has become a new fave and possibly even earned a repurchase in the future.

MAC IS BACK VOL II

OMG I know it’s been some time since I’ve posted, but it’s all good because I am making my comeback with a hot new fave.

Mac is back! I know I have definitely said that on my blog in the past but I just can’t help it. Maybe this could be a new Mac Cosmetics series? As you may have heard or seen all over Instagram, Mac Cosmetics has launched another collection and this time is a perfect blow up of summer. Seriously, when you look at this collection, the packaging and the products, you just imagine summer time. The “Fruit Juicy” collection includes a bunch of fun lipsticks, lipglasses, eyeshadow palettes, powders, bronzers, lustre drops, a scented mac fix plus, makeup brushes and a makeup bag. I absolutely love the packaging of this collection, its super flowery and just screams warmer weather and fun in the sun. I was most excited for one palette, “Fruit A La La”, and I set my alarm early for the day of the launch and bought it immediately.

From the three palettes in this collection, this one is my fave. The colours are so pretty and vibrant. This palette comes with six shades, a deep brown, hot pink, fiery orange, a glittery copper, light grey, and satin beige. Looking at this palette at first the colours may seem a tad intimidating but they are so much fun to play with. The best thing about this palette is how well the shadows blend and how effortlessly you can create a colourful look. These shadows are long wear and smooth. When applying the glittery copper shade just be careful of a bit of fallout, it’s nothing crazy whatsoever but with glittery shadow you should always be cautious.

You will be able to see the great pigment in the picture where I swatched the shades. I did not find these shadows to be patchy or lacking pigment which was great because the colours are so beautiful.

I can definitely promise that this will be my go-to summer palette because I am so obsessed with pinks and oranges lately, whether is be this palette or a fiery orange lip, I am all for it! Let me know what you guys think of palette and the rest of the collection 🙂

FINDING THE PERFECT CONCEALER!

I am not one to wear foundation every single day; it’s just too much sometimes. So on my more chill days I love putting some concealer under the eyes and skipping foundation for the face. I especially love this for spring and summer where you just don’t feel like wearing too much makeup. With this in mind, I have tested out a few concealers and figured out what works for me and what does not. So I will be sharing my fave concealers and others which were a fail for me. Let’s begin!

17622301_10208566985869077_663941541_o

“Hard Candy” is a brand which you can find at Walmart. I heard about a concealer they have in their collection and is supposedly very high coverage. This concealer is quite pigmented so WARNING ALERT, a little does go a long way. This is a heavy duty concealer and the coverage is great but they do not have a lot of shades to choose from. So if you are more of a deeper skin tone it will not work out with this concealer. That is the main downside. Overall this concealer is very full coverage and super pigmented. Another issue with this concealer is that if you do not use it long enough or put it way it does become watery and the next time you go to use it, a bunch of liquid will just come out. Shake it well before use. This is definitely not the best drugstore concealer in my opinion but the coverage does speak for itself.

Everyone is well aware of the “Maybelline Age Rewind” concealer; I do remember how much hype there was and still is surrounding this product. Unfortunately when I tested it out a few times I absolutely hated it. I do not like the consistency of it or the blendability of this product. Even when I blend it in as much as I can it still does not look seamless and it does crease. There is also not a large selection when it comes to finding your perfect shade. It doesn’t give off a natural finish, rather it brings more attention to your under eyes in a bad way. I would definitely not recommend this product to anyone looking for a new concealer, you can find a much better ones either drugstore or higher end.

My all-time favourite and go-to concealer is the “Rimmel Wake Me Up”. I have repurchased this product more than 4 times and use it almost every time I apply makeup. It gives me great coverage and it blends well. It comes in a tube with a doe foot applicator which is perfect to target specific areas. The only down side would be that Rimmel’s shade range in the concealer is very minimal. They only have light shades, which is a bummer for those looking for a deeper colour.

A new drugstore concealer I’ve been loving recently is the “LA Girl Pro Concealer”. There was also a lot of hype around this product being amazing and very affordable. The consistency is great, very creamy, and blends out wonderfully providing good coverage, but not full. LA Girl also came out with so many shades that you will definitely be able to find your perfect colour. This concealer has not creased on me and always offers a smooth finish to my skin. I cannot wait to try out the deeper tones for contour, as I have heard great reviews for using this product as a cream contour. For those more natural days I love skipping foundation and just popping concealer under the eyes and this one would be great.

Let’s talk about one of the most popular concealers at the moment, the “Tarte Shape Tape”. This does live up to the hype that it received. This product is only available online on the Tarte website. It comes with a good amount of product (10mL) and has a doe foot applicator. I would prefer a smaller sized applicator; I was quite surprised by it. I bought the shade “Tan Sand” and next time I would buy a shade lighter just so I can highlight as well. This concealer is full coverage and blends out well. It is scented, but not too strong. I am a bit fragrance sensitive, but it’s not extreme and I have no problem applying this concealer. Make sure to always set your concealer with either pressed or loose powder so it doesn’t crease or budge.

“Mac Pro Longwear Concealer” is one of those concealers that never seems to fail me.  It does provide quite a bit of coverage and lasts a long time. I love how this concealer does not cake up. I use this concealer for under the eyes and anywhere I may have redness. It blends out very well and is light weight. The downside for this product would be that it comes with a pump; I just hate getting it everywhere. Concealers should stick to doe foot applicators. You will see in the picture down below that I have the shade ‘NC42’ but I typically use ‘NC35’, it just that the MAC artist gave me the wrong shade so ‘NC42’ does not brighten my under eyes only provides coverage.

The best high end concealer I have ever tried would hands down be the “NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer”. It does not crease, blends amazing, and there is such a wide range of colours to choose from. I love that it does not dry out my under eye area, it hides any imperfections and redness. I can rave on and rave about this concealer but if you have not tried it you really should. This concealer trumps every other concealer I mentioned above. It is pricier and convincing yourself to continue to repurchase this product is difficult sometimes 😛 Nonetheless, the formula does speak for itself and I have not found a high end concealer that trumps NARS.

Let me know what concealers you love or would love to try next.

The Master Palette

Mario Dedivanovic is an amazing makeup artist, teacher, and influencer. You may know him from being Kim Kardashian’s go to makeup artist, but he has worked with numerous celebrities for all sorts of different projects. There’s something very unique about Dedivanovic’s artistry, his work is just impeccable. When Mario Dedivanovic announced he would be collaborating with Anastasia Beverly Hills and coming out with a limited edition eyeshadow palette, I was freaking out. This palette went on sale in October and I placed an order as fast as I could and waited ever so patiently. Thankfully, Sephora does not take long to deliver.

img_6247

The “Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Master Palette by Mario” comes with 12 beautiful shades and a dual ended eyeshadow brush.  I’ve had this palette for about 3-4 months and it is my holy grail, my favourite eyeshadow palette, and the palette I reach most for when doing my makeup. I wanted to test this palette out properly and use it as much as I could to write an honest review. These shadows are top quality, the texture is very velvety. Blendability of these shadows is top notch and there is a great selection of colours, a mixture of matte and shimmer shades. These shadows probably are one of the best blending in my collection and you can create numerous different looks, such a dramatic smokey eye to a neutral day look. Pigmentation, as you’ll see in the swatches, is amazing. The shades included will look good with any eye colour and skin tone; it is definitely a versatile palette.

I truly love this palette, and have not had a single problem with it. I did not expect any less from Mario Dedivanovic, his passion for makeup and his artistry speaks for itself. Although, I do wish this palette wasn’t limited edition because I know I will be hitting pan soon and will probably have to look for dupes. I personally have only used the brush once or twice; I tend not to use the applicators the product comes with. I found that there was nothing special with the dual ended brush and stuck with my trusted blending brushes. Also, this is a cruelty free product.

My favourite shades in this palette include, ‘Lula’, ‘Isabel’, ‘Bronx’, ‘Muse’, and ‘5th Ave’. Check out Mario Dedivanovic’s work on Instagram @makeupbymario.

A Colourful Soul

Valentine’s Day is coming up and I don’t know if I’m excited yet. Is that weird? This happens all the time and I’ll probably get more excited closer to the date. For this day, we always see the usual Valentine’s Day makeup, whether it’s a smoky eye or a soft eye look with the classic red lip. That’s all fine and dandy, but maybe you want to try something a bit more different and maybe even ‘out of this world’. I came up with a fun and unique purple glittery eye look paired with a nude lip, with the skin looking fresh, and glowing. With this look you’ll definitely knock out any date, and isn’t that what Valentine’s Day is all about 😛 I added a matching purple bindi, a decorative symbol worn on your forehead in Eastern cultures, which is completely your decision to wear. I do enjoy mixing Eastern and Western cultures; at times they can complement one another quite well.

My First Set of Makeup Brushes

As we all know makeup brushes can be crazy expensive, sometimes even more than our makeup products. I remember when I first started getting into makeup, I of course needed a brush set that wouldn’t financially drain me. I did tons and tons of research and finally came across Coastal Scents. This cosmetics brand is known for its low prices yet good quality cosmetics and tools. This company is a great stand up against really expensive brands. Especially, if you’re new to makeup you probably won’t want to spend $20 on each brush or even $100 for a set. My first set of makeup brushes cost me $9.95 USD! That’s right, I bought a 12 piece brush set for $10. Normally, this brush set is listed for $25 on the Coastal Scents’ website, but they always have sales and promotions going on. I do remember, since I live in Canada, the shipping really took a toll. I spent around $35 total including shipping. Even though, for those who do not live in the United States, $35 for a 12 piece brush set is not bad at all.

img_5970

I bought these brushes in 2014 and still use them every time I apply makeup. I’ve washed them over and over again, and still they are some of my favourite face and eye brushes. This set includes:

  1. Powder brush (natural)
  2. Angled blush brush (natural)
  3. Foundation brush (synthetic)
  4. Medium shadow brush (synthetic)
  5. Blender doefoot brush (synthetic)
  6. Blender pointed brush (natural)
  7. Concealer brush (synthetic)
  8. Detail round brush (synthetic)
  9. Detail pointed brush (synthetic)
  10. Angled liner brush (synthetic)
  11. Bent liner brush (synthetic)
  12. Lash brow comb (synthetic)

img_5962

These brushes are soft, do not shed every use, and the quality is great. I have been using my Coastal Scents brushes for about 3 years, and continue to use them. Shipping was no problem whatsoever and surprisingly I received my package in a short amount of time. I will definitely repurchase from this company and try out more of their products. My brush collection has grown over the years and I use Coastal Scents brushes along with my Mac, Real Techniques, and Luxie brushes. My only regret would be not buying a bigger brush set. I do recommend these brushes to anyone just staring out with makeup or even individuals who are experienced in this field. It’s a great price for great quality brushes.

To Glow or Not To Glow

There seems to be massive hype for Laura Geller’s highlight in ‘Gilded Honey’. I decided to try it for myself and see just how amazing this highlight was! Will it blind onlookers, or just match up to any other highlighter on the market? When I bought this product, I was very surprised by the size of it. I did expect it to be bigger for some reason. It contains 0.16 oz or 4.5 grams of products, and is sold for $26 (USD). There is no mirror included and the packaging is not extravagant or really worth mentioning. I first heard about this product through a few of my favourite YouTubers, including, Desi Perkins and Amanda Ensing and just had to have it like a lot of other makeup products.

img_5807

I was rather disappointed when I first applied it because it didn’t give me that OMG blinding highlight that other products offer. I found myself having to apply a lot more of the product to get a good glow. In comparison to my favourite highlighter at the moment, ‘Champagne Pop’ by Becca, it wasn’t all that amazing. I would definitely not label this as a bad product or never use again, but personally it wasn’t worth the hype it was receiving. I would stick to my trusted ‘Champagne Pop’ and if I wanted that extra highlight add a bit of NYX Illuminator as a base. ‘Gilded Honey’ has a very smooth texture and goes on very evenly, it’s not patchy whatsoever. It has pigmentation, even when swatched, but not has strong as ‘Champagne Pop’. There are much better highlighters on the market, whether they cost more or even less. For a drugstore comparison, ‘Gilded Honey’ is much better than L’Oreal’s True Match Lumi Illuminator (pressed powder) in ‘Rose’ and Wet n Wild’s Illuminating Palette in ‘Catwalk Pink’.

Prices, without tax, for the products mentioned (CAD):

  • ‘Gilded Honey’ by Laura Geller: $33
  • ‘Champagne Pop’ by Becca: $46
  • ‘Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator in Gleam’ by NYX: $10
  • ‘Rose’ by L’Oreal True Match Lumi: $15
  • ‘Catwalk Pink’ by Wet n Wild: $7
