Back at it with the wonderfully enticing Shari Lapena, with her book “A Couple Next Door”. Lapena has a refreshing way with words which I have not seen with many authors these days. She knows how to engage the reader with her buildup of the plot and with her attention to detail. “A Couple Next Door”, involves an innocent night out for new parents and a kidnapping which causes both parents to go into a downward spiral.

The babysitter had cancelled on the couple last minute, but the father convinces his wife they will check on the baby every 30 minutes and off they went to their neighbours.  Their neighbour Cynthia hates children, the mother is dealing with postpartum depression, and the father is dealing with a failing business. Was this an inside job or has someone been watching this couple for some time? This book explores a thrilling plot, betrayal, and self-doubt.

“A Couple Next Door” is the perfect thriller for this quarantine we are all going through together. This book will keep you guessing and wanting more. I recommend making a reading list to help you stay busy and help your mind stay active. A good book can really help you stay on top of things and keep you going.
