Beginner’s Guide to Eyeshadow Brushes

The hardest thing to do when getting into makeup is knowing exactly which tools to buy. You do not want to go crazy and overspend but you want the necessary tools to help you achieve a variety of looks. In this blog I will be sharing exactly which brushes you will need for any eye look. These are brushes that I personally use every time I do makeup and have had some of them for years

Let’s get right into it:

First and foremost, you will need a blending brush. You can use this for the crease and to set your eyes. My personal favourite has been the Sigma E40. This is a dome shaped tapered blending brush which will give you the fluff you need to blend but also the precision, so your shadow is neat. My second recommendation would be the NYX Pro Crease Brush. This brush is also dome shaped and fits perfectly in the crease of the eye to blend out shadow effortlessly.

Next, you will need a brush to soften the edges and create the perfect outer V for your eyelid. For this I recommend the famous Mac 217 or LA Girl 203. These two brushes will help you create the perfect smokey look and make sure your edges are perfectly blended.

What do you use to pack on the shadow? A flat eyeshadow brush, I have been using the Mikasa E230. This brush is great for packing on powder shadow to get the best colour payoff.

Lastly, I recommend a pencil brush for finer detailing and blending shadow on your lower lash liner. The one I use might be a little tricky to get your hands on, but it’s the Storybook Cosmetics Wizardry Brush. Another brush I would recommend, and is easier to buy, is the MAC 219.

These 4 brushes are really all you need to create the perfect eyeshadow look. Having an excess of brushes just means you have more to clean. But I will recommend having an extra blending brush on hand, in case of any blending emergencies.

Until Next Time!
