MAC IS BACK VOL II

OMG I know it’s been some time since I’ve posted, but it’s all good because I am making my comeback with a hot new fave.

Mac is back! I know I have definitely said that on my blog in the past but I just can’t help it. Maybe this could be a new Mac Cosmetics series? As you may have heard or seen all over Instagram, Mac Cosmetics has launched another collection and this time is a perfect blow up of summer. Seriously, when you look at this collection, the packaging and the products, you just imagine summer time. The “Fruit Juicy” collection includes a bunch of fun lipsticks, lipglasses, eyeshadow palettes, powders, bronzers, lustre drops, a scented mac fix plus, makeup brushes and a makeup bag. I absolutely love the packaging of this collection, its super flowery and just screams warmer weather and fun in the sun. I was most excited for one palette, “Fruit A La La”, and I set my alarm early for the day of the launch and bought it immediately.

From the three palettes in this collection, this one is my fave. The colours are so pretty and vibrant. This palette comes with six shades, a deep brown, hot pink, fiery orange, a glittery copper, light grey, and satin beige. Looking at this palette at first the colours may seem a tad intimidating but they are so much fun to play with. The best thing about this palette is how well the shadows blend and how effortlessly you can create a colourful look. These shadows are long wear and smooth. When applying the glittery copper shade just be careful of a bit of fallout, it’s nothing crazy whatsoever but with glittery shadow you should always be cautious.

You will be able to see the great pigment in the picture where I swatched the shades. I did not find these shadows to be patchy or lacking pigment which was great because the colours are so beautiful.

I can definitely promise that this will be my go-to summer palette because I am so obsessed with pinks and oranges lately, whether is be this palette or a fiery orange lip, I am all for it! Let me know what you guys think of palette and the rest of the collection 🙂

FINDING THE PERFECT CONCEALER!

I am not one to wear foundation every single day; it’s just too much sometimes. So on my more chill days I love putting some concealer under the eyes and skipping foundation for the face. I especially love this for spring and summer where you just don’t feel like wearing too much makeup. With this in mind, I have tested out a few concealers and figured out what works for me and what does not. So I will be sharing my fave concealers and others which were a fail for me. Let’s begin!

17622301_10208566985869077_663941541_o

“Hard Candy” is a brand which you can find at Walmart. I heard about a concealer they have in their collection and is supposedly very high coverage. This concealer is quite pigmented so WARNING ALERT, a little does go a long way. This is a heavy duty concealer and the coverage is great but they do not have a lot of shades to choose from. So if you are more of a deeper skin tone it will not work out with this concealer. That is the main downside. Overall this concealer is very full coverage and super pigmented. Another issue with this concealer is that if you do not use it long enough or put it way it does become watery and the next time you go to use it, a bunch of liquid will just come out. Shake it well before use. This is definitely not the best drugstore concealer in my opinion but the coverage does speak for itself.

Everyone is well aware of the “Maybelline Age Rewind” concealer; I do remember how much hype there was and still is surrounding this product. Unfortunately when I tested it out a few times I absolutely hated it. I do not like the consistency of it or the blendability of this product. Even when I blend it in as much as I can it still does not look seamless and it does crease. There is also not a large selection when it comes to finding your perfect shade. It doesn’t give off a natural finish, rather it brings more attention to your under eyes in a bad way. I would definitely not recommend this product to anyone looking for a new concealer, you can find a much better ones either drugstore or higher end.

My all-time favourite and go-to concealer is the “Rimmel Wake Me Up”. I have repurchased this product more than 4 times and use it almost every time I apply makeup. It gives me great coverage and it blends well. It comes in a tube with a doe foot applicator which is perfect to target specific areas. The only down side would be that Rimmel’s shade range in the concealer is very minimal. They only have light shades, which is a bummer for those looking for a deeper colour.

A new drugstore concealer I’ve been loving recently is the “LA Girl Pro Concealer”. There was also a lot of hype around this product being amazing and very affordable. The consistency is great, very creamy, and blends out wonderfully providing good coverage, but not full. LA Girl also came out with so many shades that you will definitely be able to find your perfect colour. This concealer has not creased on me and always offers a smooth finish to my skin. I cannot wait to try out the deeper tones for contour, as I have heard great reviews for using this product as a cream contour. For those more natural days I love skipping foundation and just popping concealer under the eyes and this one would be great.

Let’s talk about one of the most popular concealers at the moment, the “Tarte Shape Tape”. This does live up to the hype that it received. This product is only available online on the Tarte website. It comes with a good amount of product (10mL) and has a doe foot applicator. I would prefer a smaller sized applicator; I was quite surprised by it. I bought the shade “Tan Sand” and next time I would buy a shade lighter just so I can highlight as well. This concealer is full coverage and blends out well. It is scented, but not too strong. I am a bit fragrance sensitive, but it’s not extreme and I have no problem applying this concealer. Make sure to always set your concealer with either pressed or loose powder so it doesn’t crease or budge.

“Mac Pro Longwear Concealer” is one of those concealers that never seems to fail me.  It does provide quite a bit of coverage and lasts a long time. I love how this concealer does not cake up. I use this concealer for under the eyes and anywhere I may have redness. It blends out very well and is light weight. The downside for this product would be that it comes with a pump; I just hate getting it everywhere. Concealers should stick to doe foot applicators. You will see in the picture down below that I have the shade ‘NC42’ but I typically use ‘NC35’, it just that the MAC artist gave me the wrong shade so ‘NC42’ does not brighten my under eyes only provides coverage.

The best high end concealer I have ever tried would hands down be the “NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer”. It does not crease, blends amazing, and there is such a wide range of colours to choose from. I love that it does not dry out my under eye area, it hides any imperfections and redness. I can rave on and rave about this concealer but if you have not tried it you really should. This concealer trumps every other concealer I mentioned above. It is pricier and convincing yourself to continue to repurchase this product is difficult sometimes 😛 Nonetheless, the formula does speak for itself and I have not found a high end concealer that trumps NARS.

Let me know what concealers you love or would love to try next.

Make it POP like Champagne

Highlighting is all the rage and shows no signs of disappearing anytime soon. Not only is it enough to highlight with one product, but layering has also become a trend. I will be reviewing two illuminators, more on the affordable side. The first is by NYX, the “Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator in Gleam”. Second illuminator we have is by Sephora, “Radiant Luminizing Drops in Ultra Light”.

img_5613

In terms of consistency, NYX definitely takes the cake! Sephora’s illuminator is a tad too runny and watery. I find it harder to control the product when it comes to application. “Born to Glow” illuminator, by NYX, has a thicker consistency which I personally prefer since it is easier to apply and work with.

Application differs greatly as well, as I mentioned above I do prefer a thicker consistency since I find it easier to apply and blend. I tend to use my finger to apply liquid illuminators and if needed, I use a sponge to blend. Consistency does coincide with application and the Sephora illuminator is just a nuisance to apply. As with any makeup product, pigmentation is a huge factor. This post seems rather one sided 😛 But what can I say, NYX is the better pigmented product. This all does depend on what you are looking for from the product. If you want that extra blinding glow where you use an illuminator as a base for your powder highlight, NYX is what you are looking for as a drugstore option. If you want that subtle glow, great, try out the Sephora illuminator it will give you just that. I have tried layering my powder highlight over the Sephora illuminator and it does not give me my blindly OMG glow. I do believe a good base will provide a good end result.

img_5632

The powder highlights I use on a regular are “Champagne Pop by Becca” and “Soft & Gentle by Mac”. The one upside with the Sephora illuminator is that it includes a dropper applicator which is helpful when you do not want waste a whole bunch of product. The NYX illuminator is obviously the better product in my opinion. The product itself is pigmented, easy to work with, and affordable!

Prices, without tax,  for the products mentioned (CAD):

  • NYX the “Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator in Gleam” $10
  • Sephora “Radiant Luminizing Drops in Ultra Light” $19

Liquid Lipstick Review

Hey hey!

(Featured song: “Stay Stay Stay” by Taylor Swift)

I’m back with another review. I have recently discovered the different brands of liquid lipsticks I have acquired over some time and will be reviewing them today. I have included drugstore and non-drugstore brands. Let’s get right into it.

IMG_5128

“Echo” by Kat Von D

  • $24CDN
  • Kat Von D never ceases to amaze everyone with her makeup collection. “Echo” is an enchanting deep navy blue colour, definitely an eye catcher
  • Full coverage and long wear
  • Dries completely matte, but I found it to be too dry for my lips. It’s not a painfully dry feeling, just a tad uncomfortable
  • Bold

“Recollection” by MAC

  • $24CDN
  • I do prefer MAC lipsticks in general to other more expensive brands because they glide on much easier and your lips stay moisturized
  • This is a majestic purple, a colour that leaves an impression
  • This formulation does not have strong longevity in comparison to Kat Von D’s liquid lipsticks. Nonetheless, it will stay longer than regular lipsticks

“Kiss Fatal” by Rimmel

  • $8CDN
  • This liquid lipstick claims to last for 16 hours and is ‘kiss proof’. I have tested two shades from their range, and it does last a pretty long time and it is non-transferrable
  • This product requires two steps. First, you apply the colour on your lips. Secondly, apply the ‘lock & shine’ step.
  • Disadvantages: its sticky and not a matte liquid lipstick
  • I would not re-purchase because there is nothing too special about this product. The colours could be better and more unique and there is definitely better formulation out there for a liquid lipstick

“It’s Happening” by Too Faced

  • $25CDN
  • I am in love with this line! This shade is a bright magenta which suits all skin types. The formulation is one of all-time favourites, it’s very comfortable to wear and it is long wear
  • It dries completely matte and does not dry the lips out
  • Rich and creamy formula

“Always Red” by Sephora

  • $18CDN
  • This has become my all-time favourite red lip product
  • It dries matte and is not too dry for the lips
  • Great formulation because the product is very lightweight on the lips and is long wear
  • There are so many shades of red, but I found this one to be a classic bold red
  • Will continue to re-purchase for the rest of my life

“Rio” by Anastasia Beverly Hills”

  • $26CDN
  • If you’re looking for an electric hot pink with a blue undertone look no further
  • ABH liquid lipsticks are amazing, long wear, dry matte, great colour payoff and texture
  • These lipsticks smell great, the products are low in scent which I always prefer
  • Layering this product up will not do it any good. One or two layers is more than enough

“Soft Spoken” by NYX

  • $10CDN
  • The colour is more of a dark nudish-rose, but not brown
  • Amazing colour payoff and texture
  • Dries matte with a hint of transfer but nothing too crazy
  • Long lasting, but might need a bit of a touch up here and there
  • One tiny complaint would be the smell. It’s a bit of an odd plastic scent but the quality does overcome this small flaw
  • NYX is a great affordable brand

IMG_5196

***I would suggest using a primer before applying any lip product. I use the “Prep and Prime Lip” by MAC, which retails for $20CDN***

IMG_5135

What I have learned is that most liquid lipsticks have an odd scent, but nothing too strongly atrocious.

Until next time!

Wish I Had a Time Machine!

The world of fashion has taken a step back into an earlier decade! The 90’s have snuck their way back into our lives once again. Who didn’t love the 90s? Life seemed much simpler back then. Let’s be real, who didn’t want to live in the world of Friends? It would be great to live in an era where technology wasn’t everything, and one would meet their friends at a nice coffee shop to hang out and catch up. Alas, that is not the world we live in today. But traveling back in time is not difficult through FASHION!

This look was inspired a bit by the 90s, more specifically, high waisted ripped mom jeans. Mouthful, am I RIGHT?! Nonetheless, I paired these jeans with a retro-esk red striped sweater and accessorized accordingly.

Outfit

  • Jeans: TopShop (“Mom High Waisted”)
  • Sweater: H&M
  • Hat: H&M
  • Sunglasses: Aldo

I did not list all of the makeup I used, just a few products I thought were worth mentioning.

Makeup

  • Foundation: L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte (“105-Natural Beige”)
  • Lips: NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick (“Vintage”)
  • Contour: Sleek  Face Contour Kit (“Medium 885”)
  • Highlight: Becca (“Champagne Pop”) & MAC (Soft & Gentle)
  • Mascara: L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Sculpt (“Black”)

MAC is Back

MAC Cosmetics has done it again. Just released last week, this new addition has already become a crowd pleaser. The MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour, yes it is quite a mouthful, will definitely become a year-round favourite. This product goes on wet and dries completely matte, giving you a very polished look. I tried out the shade “Recollection” and cannot wait to get my hands on the other shades. I applied in around 12:30pm and did not have to reapply throughout the entire day. The test was definitely fair, I ate, drank, and went to the gym, and the colour did not budge. It may have looked a tad odd wearing such a purple colour whilst working out but I just had to test it out. The colour payoff is amazing, what you see in the packaging is definitely what you get.

2016-01-15 11.39.35

One of my fears when trying out matte lip products is whether or not it will dry out my lips throughout the day, but the Mac’s Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour is very comfortable and not harsh on my lips whatsoever. In comparison to products such as the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick, this product will not dry your lips out. The Liquid Lipcolour is very longwearing no matter what the activity. I would definitely recommend this product for a night out because there will be no need for touch ups. Touching up your makeup might become a challenge especially the more intoxicated one might get throughout the night 😛 The applicator itself is another pro for this product, it is flat on both slides but a bit pointed at the top so applying the lipstick and creating the perfect lip shape is much easier. The formulation is great; the product glides on nicely and  the product is not watery but a good consistency, allowing for a clean finish. In Canada, the Retro Matte Liquid Lipsticks retails for $24, which is a fantastic price for such a lasting lip product.

Until next time.

My Summer Makeup Essentials

Hello adventurers,

I have been obsessing over a few makeup and hair products lately. It’s a collection of drug store and non-drugstore products, but dupes are not hard to find whatsoever.

IMG_3591The first item I have been loving is the Batiste dry shampoo. For someone with long hair, it does become bothersome to wash it everyday or every other day (if I get lucky). I have tried other dry shampoos, such as Dove, but I find that it has an odd smell. The Batiste dry shampoo is a life saver for those busy days where I just don’t have an hour to spare to wash my hair.

Second on my list of essentials is the MAC Haute and Naughty mascara. This is the only mascara I have been using recently because of the drama it adds to my lashes. I was not blessed with long lashes, but this mascara does the trick and fools any onlooker into believing I have full lashes. It has two wands, and the volume created is unbelievable. This is definitely my favourite non-drugstore mascara. A drugstore favourite would still be the L’Oreal Miss Manga.

Sticking to MAC products, I have been loving the Pro Longwear Concealer. It does provide quite a bit of coverage and lasts a long time. I love how this concealer does not cake up. I use this concealer for under the eyes and anywhere I may have redness. My favourite drugstore concealer is the Rimmel Wake Me Up, which I do need to repurchase.

Moving onto the cheeks, I have been obsessing over BH Cosmetics’ blush in Lilac for a few months. This is a blush and highlight duo. It is a beautiful pink shade which creates a perfect rosy cheek. The colour pay off is great, you can either add a strong pop of colour or go a bit more subtle.

Now for the holy grail of highlighters: MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle. This highlighter will give you the perfect glow. I am madly in love with the product, is it very pigmented and adds the bit of sparkle to your face.

Lastly, I present my favourite red lipstick to date: Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in 01!

IMG_3582I have tried so many red lipsticks, over the past few years but this is definitely the winner. It keeps your lip hydrated and the colour payoff is great. I have used almost all of it since it is my go to lipstick these days. I absolutely love the packaging and the lipstick does not smell odd at all which is a huge plus for me.

Prices for each product (CAN):

  • Batiste dry shampoo: $10
  • MAC Haute and Naughty mascara: $26
  • MAC Pro Longwear Concealer: $24
  • BH Cosmetics Blush Duo in Lilac: $10
  • MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle: $37
  • Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in 01: $7

Prices may differ depending on where you live 🙂
