New year, new book, why not!
My goal every year is to continue reading one book a month, which really is not too difficult since there are way too many good books out there. Although, I do not think that I will be able to read everything I want in my lifetime, but here’s to trying.
I love a good murder mystery, so I decided to read “And Then There Were None” by the queen of mystery herself, Agatha Christie. This book is a classic murder mystery about 10 strangers who were summoned to an abandoned island by U.N Owen. None of the 10 guests know who this mysterious U.N Owen character is but yet they follow the instructions given and head off to the Solider island. The first to arrive are a couple, Mr and Mrs Rogers, a cook and housekeeper hired by the host. The guests are told that U.N Owen’s arrival has been delayed. Nevertheless, everyone gets comfortable and acquainted with one another.
It does not take long for tragedy to strike. The first murder causes an understandable amount of fear and deteriorates trust amongst the group. One by one someone is killing the guests. Some turn on each other and cause quite the uproar with misleading accusations. Who could be the killer? Why has this individual, U.N Owen, invited this specific group of people to an abandoned island? What could be the reason to lure and kill strangers?
“And There Were None” is my first Agatha Christie novel and it definitely lives up to the hype. Christie will have you wanting more as the pages turn. As I was reading, I had my suspicions of who the killer could be, but the ending was something I did not expect. Once I was done the book, I actually went back to read the ending one more time because it took me by such surprise.
The story itself was executed beautifully and the words will keep you up all night wanting more. I would definitely recommend this book if you were looking for an exciting new read. I, myself, cannot wait to dabble more into Agatha Christie.
Until Next Time!
