UPDATED MASCARA ROUTINE, NEW FAVES?

There used to be a time in my life where I was obsessed with mascara, loved trying new ones and finding the most perfect formula for my lashes. I, unfortunately, am not blessed with beautiful long lashes so it can be tricky to find a mascara which holds the curl well. Nowadays, I typically apply fake lashes because WHY NOT. I love that extra amount of drama to my eyes! I have tried so many mascara both drugstore and high end including Dior, Benefit Cosmetics, Too Faced, IT Cosmetics, Maybelline, and many more. But I find myself always reaching for the same ones each and every time. I believe last year I did review the Dior and L’Oréal Miss Manga mascara and L’Oréal was the better formula but this year I have fallen in love with another mascara.

BOTH

My go-to mascara for my top lashes is the “L’Oréal Voluminous Butterfly Sculpt”. No disrespect to the “Miss Manga” mascara, that will always be a favourite. The Butterfly Sculpt formula is amazing, not too running and not too drying either. But what is really amazing is the wand. This wand is quite innovative. The bristles do not go all the way around, instead stop halfway and there is a nice edge where the bristles end. This will all make more sense when you look at the picture down below. What the edge allows you to do is really get to the root of your lashes and coat as much as you can to ensure the most volume. With this edge, you can kind of get a tight line effect which only helps to make you lashes look more full. I need all the help I can get in the lash department, since mine aren’t the most noticeable without mascara.

For my lower lashes I do use a different product, only because I find that some mascaras can bleed on your lower lash line and just create an unnecessary mess. I use the “Wet n Wild MegaLengeth Mascra”, I love this wand for my lower lashes because it’s so small and thin it coats my lashes perfectly without getting on my under eye area. Isn’t that just the worst when you’re almost done your makeup and mascara just makes a mess everywhere and you have you in with a cotton swab and salvage everything?

WW

Both these mascaras are awesome and very well priced. I’ve learned that just because a mascara is $40, it doesn’t mean it’ll do wonders. I do tend to stick to my drugstore faves but of course there are some amazing higher end favourites, such as “Too Faced Better Than Sex”.

Prices, without tax or shipping, for the products mentioned (CAD):

  • L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Sculpt: $10
  • Wet n Wild MegaLengeth Mascra: $6

Until Next Time!

My Summer Makeup Essentials

Hello adventurers,

I have been obsessing over a few makeup and hair products lately. It’s a collection of drug store and non-drugstore products, but dupes are not hard to find whatsoever.

IMG_3591The first item I have been loving is the Batiste dry shampoo. For someone with long hair, it does become bothersome to wash it everyday or every other day (if I get lucky). I have tried other dry shampoos, such as Dove, but I find that it has an odd smell. The Batiste dry shampoo is a life saver for those busy days where I just don’t have an hour to spare to wash my hair.

Second on my list of essentials is the MAC Haute and Naughty mascara. This is the only mascara I have been using recently because of the drama it adds to my lashes. I was not blessed with long lashes, but this mascara does the trick and fools any onlooker into believing I have full lashes. It has two wands, and the volume created is unbelievable. This is definitely my favourite non-drugstore mascara. A drugstore favourite would still be the L’Oreal Miss Manga.

Sticking to MAC products, I have been loving the Pro Longwear Concealer. It does provide quite a bit of coverage and lasts a long time. I love how this concealer does not cake up. I use this concealer for under the eyes and anywhere I may have redness. My favourite drugstore concealer is the Rimmel Wake Me Up, which I do need to repurchase.

Moving onto the cheeks, I have been obsessing over BH Cosmetics’ blush in Lilac for a few months. This is a blush and highlight duo. It is a beautiful pink shade which creates a perfect rosy cheek. The colour pay off is great, you can either add a strong pop of colour or go a bit more subtle.

Now for the holy grail of highlighters: MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle. This highlighter will give you the perfect glow. I am madly in love with the product, is it very pigmented and adds the bit of sparkle to your face.

Lastly, I present my favourite red lipstick to date: Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in 01!

IMG_3582I have tried so many red lipsticks, over the past few years but this is definitely the winner. It keeps your lip hydrated and the colour payoff is great. I have used almost all of it since it is my go to lipstick these days. I absolutely love the packaging and the lipstick does not smell odd at all which is a huge plus for me.

Prices for each product (CAN):

  • Batiste dry shampoo: $10
  • MAC Haute and Naughty mascara: $26
  • MAC Pro Longwear Concealer: $24
  • BH Cosmetics Blush Duo in Lilac: $10
  • MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle: $37
  • Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in 01: $7

Prices may differ depending on where you live 🙂

Favourite Looks for Winter Lips

As the title suggests, I will be sharing my favourite lip looks for winter! I absolutely adore these Revlon ColourStay lip stains. The colour payoff is great and these lip stains are very moisturizing. They give a comfortable tingly feeling to the lips. Usually with dark or bright lips I tend to keep the eyes and cheeks a bit lighter, to ensure my lips give away that pop of amazing colour. IMG_2126 - CopyThe colours I have are (left to right) “New York Scene 045” and “Parisian Passion 005”. I absolutely love these colours. “New York Scene 045” is more of a dark red, wine tone. “Parisian Passion” falls more into the vampy scene. They do live up to their label and stain your lips, which is great if you are out and about. You can wear these by themselves or with lipsticks underneath for a longer wear and more colour outburst. I am definitely all about that vampy-purple lip. It gives your look the perfect edge with a hint of chic. Vampy lips are a great trend which go with a large variety of outfits, very versatile. IMG_2131 - CopyTo go with “Parisian Passion 005” I would recommend “Rebel” by MAC Cosmetics. MAC lipsticks come in a variety of finishes varying from more matte looks versus a creamier look. “Rebel” is a satin finish and I find that it dries out my lips but with the Revlon ColourStay Stain, your lips will definitely be moisturized.  What I love about “Rebel” is the shade and the intensity of the colour. It certainly provides an opaque coverage. MAC lipsticks are about $17 Canadian. For a drugstore dupe or another lip product that would go great with “Parisian Passion 005” I recommend Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in “Crush 005”. These lip balms nourish your lips and the colour is true to its packaging. IMG_2137 - CopyRevlon Colourburst retails for about $10 Canadian. Revlon has amazing collections, not only for the lips but many other products. I love finding drugstore dupes of high-end products. Paying a higher price for makeup does not always make it a better product; sometimes you can find similar products for half the cost! Lastly, for “New York Scene 045”, I love wearing Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm in the shade “Provocateur 135”. This is my favourite red lip colour. It has a beautiful gloss and stays for hours! With “New York Scene 045” over “Provocateur 135”, you have your glamorous red carpet lips. IMG_2127 - CopyAgain, this product is moisturizing for your lips and is the perfect shade for that special night out. For a lesser pop of colour, you can wear the Revlon ColourStay lip stains on its own and they will still look fantastic. I will surely by adding to my Revlon ColourStay lip stain collection, they have a wide variety of colours to choose from. I may change things up and choose completely different shades, but then again, I might chicken out and continue with my red and purple obsession 😛
