Mario Badescu SkinCare Review|Updated Nightime Routine

Another skincare review! I have become a bit too obsessed with skin care as of lately, but could that ever really be a bad thing? Maybe for my bank account 😛 Lately, I have been testing out Mario Badescu products mostly a part of my nighttime routine. I picked up the ‘Glycolic Acid Toner’, ‘Protein Night Cream’, and the ‘Glycolic Eye Cream’. I also picked up the ‘Caviar Night Cream’ but that will be for another blog post. I have been using these products for almost two months now.

Final

The description of the ‘Glycolic Acid Toner’ states, “refresh, exfoliate, and help soften the look of fine lines and wrinkles”.  Since this toner is free of alcohol it definitely refreshes and does not dry out my skin. Usually toners can include a high amount of alcohol which causes your skin to dry out even more. Another great pro is that I have definitely seen the smoothening of my skin just a bit. My skin is a bit textured in the forehead area and that has finally calmed down from when I first began using this toner. In terms of softening fine lines and wrinkles, I’ll let you know in a few years.

My skin does lean towards being combination for the most part; the driest it is would be in the colder months. The ‘Protein Night Cream’ is more recommended for mature or dry skin but I decided to try it out during the colder months. It claims to “immediately soften and rejuvenate” and also not “leave a greasy feeling by morning”. This does soften my skin as soon as I apply it and a LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY. The one thing I do not like about it is it’s quite greasy when initially applied. When I do wake up, the product has been absorbed into my skin but I would prefer to go to bed with a non-greasy feeling. The smell is also a tad unconventional in my opinion but it’s not too big of a deal. For a fragrance sensitive individual, the smell is not that bad.

Lastly, we have the ‘Glycolic Eye Cream’. Similar to the ‘Protein Night Cream’, it is quite concentrated and a little surely goes a long way. It has the same greasy finish but when I wake up the product has all been absorbed into my skin. This claims to be for anti-aging, fights wrinkles and deeply hydrates the eye area. When I apply any eye cream, I tend to go around the entire area including under the eyes, around the eye area, and the eyelids as well. I can confirm that it is extremely hydrating and absorbs quite well into the skin by the time I wake up. As for fighting wrinkles, those results will be posted in a few years.

I would definitely recommend these products for anyone with dry to severely dry skin since the products are so deeply hydrating. I will continue using these products and maybe switch things up by trying out the ‘Caviar Night Cream’. Although, I will most likely not use the night or eye cream during the warmer months and probably switch them out for lighter formulas.

Prices, without tax or shipping, for the products mentioned (CAD):

  • Glycolic Acid Toner: $23
  • Protein Night Cream: $28
  • Glycolic Eye Cream: $25
  • Caviar Night Cream: $28

Updated Skincare Routine | New Faves

I’m constantly researching and experimenting new skincare. I have come across some new faves which have definitely improved the condition and appearance of my skin. Let’s begin and go through each step in my morning skincare routine:

final

  1. Cleanser: Ole Henriksen “Face the Truth Gel Cleanser”
    • Right after I’m done washing my face I can see my skin looking so much cleaner and more refreshed. I find that gel cleansers do a better job with really purifying the skin. This face wash includes citrus and seaweed extracts.
  1. Toner: Nivea “Refreshing Toner”
    • I have repurchased this item so many times. It has truly helped clear my skin up. After cleansing if there is anything left over on my skin, this toner will take care of it. It tightens my pores and ensures my skin is as clean as possible.
  1. Moisturizer: The Ordinary “Natural Moisturizing Factors +HA”
    • This brand is one of the more affordable skincare brands out there but definitely can be comparable to higher end products. I love the non-greasy formula of this moisturizer and its ability to keep my skin hydrated all day. This product is oil and alcohol free to provide a fresh and lightweight feeling to my skin.
  1. Tinted Moisturizer: Origins “Ginzing SPF 40 Energy-Boosting Tinted Moisturizer”
    • I absolutely love this tinted moisturizer not only because it protects my skin from the sun, it balances my uneven skin tone because of its sheer tint coverage. I am not a fan of wearing foundation on a daily basis so this is the perfect product for those who avoid clogging their pores. This product energizes your skin since it is powered by coffee. The only complain I have about this product is that for my combination skin it’s a bit drying, so that’s why I moisturize with The Ordinary brand, so it’s not the end of the world.
  1. Eye Cream: Origins “Ginzing Refreshing Eye Cream ti Brighten and Depuff”
    • Favourite day eye cream yet! I love the lightweight, non-greasy formula and the fact that it instantly brightens my under eyes. I usually pair a concealer on top of this eye cream without any problem or creasing. This eye cream is made with coffee beans which helps rapidly brighten and wake tired eyes. It definitely reduces the appearance of dark circles and bags which is exactly what I need.
  1. Neck Cream: Tarte “Maracuja Neck Treatment”
    • This may be excessive but I am doing everything I can to help my skin now and for the future. This hydrating, no greasy formula helps improve the appearance of my skin on the neck and décolleté. Don’t neglect the neck area, it ages too! It also helps the appearance of wrinkles and sagging. Avoid that turkey neck.

Taking preventative measures doesn’t start at a certain age; it starts as soon as possible. Have you tried any of these products? If you’re looking for new skincare products to try, check out my faves and let me know how you like them! Let’s not neglect our skin and always protect it as much as we possibly can.

Is the Frizz killing your Bizz?

Was that too cheesy for a title or does it work? This won’t be a makeup review, rather a review on hair products and how I combat frizzy hair. My hair is a matter of its own, completely independent from me and what I want. I would love to have perfectly smooth hair as if I freshly had a salon blowout, but alas, that all depends on my routine since my hair never naturally complies.

I have been using two products and testing them out for over a month and they have successfully tamed my frizz. The first product I use is the “Keratherapy Daily Smoothing Cream”. Since chopping about 9 or so inches of my hair, it’s now just shoulder length, and I only need about a dime size of this smoothing cream to run all throughout my damp towel dried hair. My hair is a bit finer so I try not to apply too much of the product on my roots or else my hair will get oily, I just run it through my roots a bit and focus the majority of the product on the middle and bottom portions. After this, I blow dry with a brush and immediately you will feel and see the difference. Frizz has drastically decreased and I don’t look like I have crazy wild hair. This smoothing cream also helps protect your hair from heat damage caused by styling tools, environmental and chemical damage.

final

The second product I use is after I blow dry, it is the “Oribe Anti-Humidity Spray”. I spray this all around, flip my head over and repeat and then I like to brush through my hair. I usually brush through my hair because if you spray too much of the product it might get a tad sticky, but the brush-through fixes all of that. I usually don’t give in to these kinds of sprays and think they’re a bit gimmicky, but I was very surprised at how well it held my hair together.

I would recommend these products to anyone trying to combat their frizz; I understand how much of a nuisance it can be to try to tame unruly hair.

Prices, without tax or shipping, for the products mentioned (CAD):

  • Keratherapy Daily Smoothing Cream: $21.50
  • Oribe Anti-Humidity Spray: $47

MAC IS BACK VOL II

OMG I know it’s been some time since I’ve posted, but it’s all good because I am making my comeback with a hot new fave.

Mac is back! I know I have definitely said that on my blog in the past but I just can’t help it. Maybe this could be a new Mac Cosmetics series? As you may have heard or seen all over Instagram, Mac Cosmetics has launched another collection and this time is a perfect blow up of summer. Seriously, when you look at this collection, the packaging and the products, you just imagine summer time. The “Fruit Juicy” collection includes a bunch of fun lipsticks, lipglasses, eyeshadow palettes, powders, bronzers, lustre drops, a scented mac fix plus, makeup brushes and a makeup bag. I absolutely love the packaging of this collection, its super flowery and just screams warmer weather and fun in the sun. I was most excited for one palette, “Fruit A La La”, and I set my alarm early for the day of the launch and bought it immediately.

From the three palettes in this collection, this one is my fave. The colours are so pretty and vibrant. This palette comes with six shades, a deep brown, hot pink, fiery orange, a glittery copper, light grey, and satin beige. Looking at this palette at first the colours may seem a tad intimidating but they are so much fun to play with. The best thing about this palette is how well the shadows blend and how effortlessly you can create a colourful look. These shadows are long wear and smooth. When applying the glittery copper shade just be careful of a bit of fallout, it’s nothing crazy whatsoever but with glittery shadow you should always be cautious.

You will be able to see the great pigment in the picture where I swatched the shades. I did not find these shadows to be patchy or lacking pigment which was great because the colours are so beautiful.

I can definitely promise that this will be my go-to summer palette because I am so obsessed with pinks and oranges lately, whether is be this palette or a fiery orange lip, I am all for it! Let me know what you guys think of palette and the rest of the collection 🙂

The Perfect Full Coverage Foundation|Updated Routine

Are you looking for a new foundation to test out? Well look no further! My current fave full coverage foundation is the “Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer”.

1

This foundation has it all. It’s lightweight, full coverage, and long wearing. This foundation will stay on and provide you with good coverage for your entire day. I appreciate the wide selection of shades Clinique offers, and the applicator is by far the best. This foundation has a large doe foot applicator, perfect for precise application whether you’re just spot concealing or full face.

IMG_6401

Also, there is no mess or wasting any extra product. The finish of this foundation is more on the natural to matte side, but not in the super drying way such as the “L’Oreal Pro Matte”. Personally, I have combination skin and this foundation lasts me all day and does not look cakey or greasy. This formula blends very well and is fragrance free which is fantastic for anyone sensitive to scent or just hates scent in their makeup.  This foundation does a great job with covering redness, blemishes and balancing uneven skin tones. Whether you’re looking for a new concealer or foundation, this product would definitely be worth a try.

It’s a great product and for a great price, this retails for $35 CDN which for the amount you get, is amazing. Let’s compare price points with the “Tarte Shape Tape” concealer, amazing full coverage product but retails for $31 CDN and you only get 10mL. With the “Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer”, a two in one product, you get 30mL for $35 CDN. It’s my current favourite go-to full coverage foundation and a must try for anyone looking for a new foundation or concealer. It’s a very comfortable wear, especially if you have to a long day ahead of you and creates a flawless canvas.

For the “Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer”, I am in the shade 8 golden neutral.

Meeting Mikasa + Discount Code

I love trying out more underrated brands and I am always on the hunt to find new faves.  “Mikasa Beauty” appeared on my radar, not too long ago, and they make brushes and makeup. So I decided to try out brushes and purchased the “5 Piece Complexion Brush Set”, which comes with:

  • Powder Brush
  • Tapered Contour Brush
  • Foundation Brush
  • Tapered Blending Brush
  • Eye Shader Brush

all brushesWhen I ordered my brush set there was a promotion going on where you get a concealer brush for free. You are able to buy individual brushes. An eye brush will cost you an average of 11-12 dollars (USD) and a face brush will vary from 12-21 dollars (USB). They also make lip brushes, beauty sponges, and makeup. At first use I immediately noticed the softness of these brushes. My favourites would include the powder and tapered contour brush. I love the powder brush because of its size, softness and how well it applies product. You can use this to powder your face and it works great, but I love it especially for bronzing.

size compare
(Left to right: Mikasa powder brush vs Coastal Scents powder brush)

The contour brush is quite tapered, as you’ll see in the pictures, and it helps outlines where you exactly want your product to be and then just merely blend it out. With the flat foundation brush, I personally do not use it for applying foundation; I use it more to apply moisturizer and primer. I love that the face brushes are super soft and the eye brushes a tad denser, not too much, which I personally look for in eye brushes.

In terms of packaging, this company did do a great job. They were individually boxed and within the boxes the brushes were wrapped as well, and no damage could be done during delivery. Delivery itself did not take an excessive time which I did appreciate.

packageThe only brush I probably will not using is the concealer brushes; I never use concealer brushes I find them quite pointless but that’s just me. I was more nervous about washing these brushes just because I’ve notice more bristle fallout when you wash brushes the first time, but I was pleasantly surprised when literally only one hair came out. The brushes dry to their original shape and are good to go again! I am looking forward to trying the E300 and E330 which are larger blending brushes and the beauty sponge. If you’re thinking of trying this brand out I’ve got a discount code so you can get 25% off >>> SUMANBEAUTY25 <<<

FINDING THE PERFECT CONCEALER!

I am not one to wear foundation every single day; it’s just too much sometimes. So on my more chill days I love putting some concealer under the eyes and skipping foundation for the face. I especially love this for spring and summer where you just don’t feel like wearing too much makeup. With this in mind, I have tested out a few concealers and figured out what works for me and what does not. So I will be sharing my fave concealers and others which were a fail for me. Let’s begin!

17622301_10208566985869077_663941541_o

“Hard Candy” is a brand which you can find at Walmart. I heard about a concealer they have in their collection and is supposedly very high coverage. This concealer is quite pigmented so WARNING ALERT, a little does go a long way. This is a heavy duty concealer and the coverage is great but they do not have a lot of shades to choose from. So if you are more of a deeper skin tone it will not work out with this concealer. That is the main downside. Overall this concealer is very full coverage and super pigmented. Another issue with this concealer is that if you do not use it long enough or put it way it does become watery and the next time you go to use it, a bunch of liquid will just come out. Shake it well before use. This is definitely not the best drugstore concealer in my opinion but the coverage does speak for itself.

Everyone is well aware of the “Maybelline Age Rewind” concealer; I do remember how much hype there was and still is surrounding this product. Unfortunately when I tested it out a few times I absolutely hated it. I do not like the consistency of it or the blendability of this product. Even when I blend it in as much as I can it still does not look seamless and it does crease. There is also not a large selection when it comes to finding your perfect shade. It doesn’t give off a natural finish, rather it brings more attention to your under eyes in a bad way. I would definitely not recommend this product to anyone looking for a new concealer, you can find a much better ones either drugstore or higher end.

My all-time favourite and go-to concealer is the “Rimmel Wake Me Up”. I have repurchased this product more than 4 times and use it almost every time I apply makeup. It gives me great coverage and it blends well. It comes in a tube with a doe foot applicator which is perfect to target specific areas. The only down side would be that Rimmel’s shade range in the concealer is very minimal. They only have light shades, which is a bummer for those looking for a deeper colour.

A new drugstore concealer I’ve been loving recently is the “LA Girl Pro Concealer”. There was also a lot of hype around this product being amazing and very affordable. The consistency is great, very creamy, and blends out wonderfully providing good coverage, but not full. LA Girl also came out with so many shades that you will definitely be able to find your perfect colour. This concealer has not creased on me and always offers a smooth finish to my skin. I cannot wait to try out the deeper tones for contour, as I have heard great reviews for using this product as a cream contour. For those more natural days I love skipping foundation and just popping concealer under the eyes and this one would be great.

Let’s talk about one of the most popular concealers at the moment, the “Tarte Shape Tape”. This does live up to the hype that it received. This product is only available online on the Tarte website. It comes with a good amount of product (10mL) and has a doe foot applicator. I would prefer a smaller sized applicator; I was quite surprised by it. I bought the shade “Tan Sand” and next time I would buy a shade lighter just so I can highlight as well. This concealer is full coverage and blends out well. It is scented, but not too strong. I am a bit fragrance sensitive, but it’s not extreme and I have no problem applying this concealer. Make sure to always set your concealer with either pressed or loose powder so it doesn’t crease or budge.

“Mac Pro Longwear Concealer” is one of those concealers that never seems to fail me.  It does provide quite a bit of coverage and lasts a long time. I love how this concealer does not cake up. I use this concealer for under the eyes and anywhere I may have redness. It blends out very well and is light weight. The downside for this product would be that it comes with a pump; I just hate getting it everywhere. Concealers should stick to doe foot applicators. You will see in the picture down below that I have the shade ‘NC42’ but I typically use ‘NC35’, it just that the MAC artist gave me the wrong shade so ‘NC42’ does not brighten my under eyes only provides coverage.

The best high end concealer I have ever tried would hands down be the “NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer”. It does not crease, blends amazing, and there is such a wide range of colours to choose from. I love that it does not dry out my under eye area, it hides any imperfections and redness. I can rave on and rave about this concealer but if you have not tried it you really should. This concealer trumps every other concealer I mentioned above. It is pricier and convincing yourself to continue to repurchase this product is difficult sometimes 😛 Nonetheless, the formula does speak for itself and I have not found a high end concealer that trumps NARS.

Let me know what concealers you love or would love to try next.
